Decoding Personality: MBTI Lecture for Cross-Cultural Talent Development

The International College at UIBE hosted an academic event focused on self-awareness and growth. Professor Malcolm Jeeves, emeritus professor at the University of St Andrews and an authority in personality psychology, delivered a lecture on "MBTI Personality Types and International Talent Development" for 2+2 program students and the wider International College community.

Professor Jeeves broke down the four core MBTI dimensions — energy source (E/I), information gathering (S/N), decision-making (T/F), and lifestyle orientation (J/P) — and analysed how different personality types align with cross-cultural communication, major selection, and teamwork.

The lecture included scenario simulations and Q&A sessions, guiding students through topics such as communication in cross-cultural teams, self-regulation under academic pressure abroad, and adapting to different educational systems.

"I didn't realise my ESFP personality is such an asset for organising cross-cultural events!" said Student Li from the 2+2 program, noting that the lecture helped her identify her strengths and plan her overseas study accordingly.

This event forms part of the International College's "Cross-Cultural Competence Enhancement Series," with more expert-led sessions planned on career development, intercultural communication, and mental wellness.
